Black Ash Pack Baskets

Course Overview

The black ash pack basket: it's beautiful, highly functional, and can be made using simple materials. The first part of the class will be spent preparing black ash splint for our basket by pounding a locally harvested log. Next, we'll weave the basket and finish it with a rim and harness. The finished basket will stand 18" high, and is perfect for forages in the woods, excursions to the grocery store, canoe camping, ice fishing, or bigger adventures further afield. It's a classic project students will enjoy for years to come. Note: this is a physically demanding course, requiring hand strength and the ability to stand and swing a 3-5 pound mallet for several hours. Expect to be tired at the end of each day!
