Birch Bark Birds

Course Overview

The story of the birch tree is integral to the North House story. In the capable hands of our teachers and students alike, this one tree is shaped into skis, boats, canoes, baskets, spoons, and even shoes. In this mini-course, you'll taste the possibilities of birch bark weaving by trying your hand at weaving a charming small bird. Discover the history, ecology and changing fate of Minnesota’s birch, view a variety of birch crafts, and whet your appetite for this versatile craft.

This event is part of the 2017 Wooden Boat Show. Members receive $5.00 off - please call (218) 387-9762 to register as a member and receive your discount.
