Beginning Four Harness Loom Weaving
Course Overview
If you're curious about weaving on a floor loom but not quite ready to make the investment or if you have a floor loom but haven't quite mastered it, this course provides an oppoortunity to experience a variety of equipment and techniques. Students will learn about weaving including a brief history, weave structures, how to read a simple weaving draft, wind a warp, and thread a loom. They will weave on both 4 harness floor looms and 4 harness table looms. Samples of different weave structures will be explored, woven, and incorporated into their binder. Students will take home samples along with several items for their own use such as placemats, towels, table runners, etc. Several different finishing techniques will be taught. The class will be taught be experienced weavers from the Northwoods Fiber Guild (based in Grand Marais) allowing for individual attention.
We would like to thank the Duluth Art Institute and the Duluth Fiber Handcrafters Guild for providing looms and equipment to make this event possible.
