Art of Felt Rug Making
Have you made felt before and found yourself frustrated with the design? The colors became muted and soft, the easily identifiable bird became a cloud? This is a class for those who have worked with felt and want to now focus on the details of design. We will look at rug making through the lens of Kyrgyzstan as a starting point to learn and understand from detailed craftsmanship and then create a series of samples to play with different felt-making techniques. We will also draw and sketch design ideas, create templates, and put it all together as you make one small rug. Students should understand the felt-making process and know how to lay out wool, wet down, and full felt on their own.
