Course Overview

Have you made felt before and found yourself frustrated with the design?  The colors became muted and soft, the easily identifiable bird became a cloud?  This is a class for those who have worked with felt and want to focus on the details of design.  First, we will examine the detailed craftsmanship of felters from Kyrgyzstan, and then apply their techniques to create a series of samples. You will also draw and sketch design ideas, create templates, and put it all together as you make two small rugs. Students should understand the felt-making process and know how to lay out wool, wet down, and full felt on their own.
