Course Overview

The graceful curve of the deer antler provides a creative springboard for the emerging folk-art form of antler basketry. In this course students learn to weave a stunning rib-style basket from dyed and natural rattan reed, incorporating a deer antler as the handle or focal point of the design. The project will be a functional tabletop basket in a melon shape, with a three-point lashing rim.  Antlers will be pre-drilled with primary rib framework inserted. The instructor will demonstrate proper drilling techniques and students may do hands-on drilling if they wish.  Antler basketry is a creative, colorful way to spend the weekend with friends, old and new! Dimensions approx. 14”H x 8”W x 4”D. Note, materials fee is payable to instructor during class.
