Course Overview

Building a boat is only the beginning. The last steps are every bit as important as the first one! In this course, you’ll start with a review of the boat-building process and then tackle the fundamentals of finish work. Working on the Susan Skiff, you’ll install the inside and outside gunwales, seats and oarlocks. You’ll paint and oil the boats, as well as add the keel and skeg to make the skiffs sea (and lake!) worthy craft. The boats you'll be working on have been student-built in the Fundamentals of Wooden Boat Building courses, but are in need of a few last touches before they are ready to be put on the auction block during the Wooden Boat Show. You'll be inspired and ready to start and finish a project of your own!
