Natural Wet Felting with Local Wool

Course Overview

Our felting fibers don’t need to come from the mill or the store! It is possible to felt with wool right from the sheep. Thankfully someone else has washed the wool we will felt with as it is more predictable, but we will wash one fleece together and experiment with unwashed wool in our projects. There will be two felting projects: one flat (seat cozies, trivets, table runners, wall hangings) and one hollow 3D (pillow cases, vessels, mittens, tea cozies). This is a primitive and direct way to make things using local fibers, giving us a natural, earthy, and organic outcome that is beautiful in its simplicity. Students are welcome to bring their own fibers to work with and we will determine if they are appropriate for felting.

Students should have the ability to stand and agitate wool (requiring a little muscle/stamina).

This course is open to students ages 14+. Youth ages 12-13 are welcome to register with an adult. Adult/child pairs will complete two projects and pay two materials fees. A 25% tuition discount applies to the youth registrant when registering with a full-paying adult; call to register.
