Course
Knife Making: Norwegian Flaming Birch Wood
Course Overview
In this course you'll work with master knifemaker Gene Tokheim to craft a 'tollekniv', or whittling knife, using rare Norwegian flaming birch wood. This exquisite wood grain is found on birch trees in the mountainous area of western Norway and sought after by knifemakers around the world. This traditional Norwegian knife acquired its present form in the early Iron Age (400-800 AD) and has been kept alive by only a handful of Norwegian smiths and knifemakers. Knifemakers of all abilities will enjoy handcrafting their own Norwegian knife and sewing a leather sheath by the conclusion of this course.
