Course
Jazz Roots of Western Swing Guitar
Course Overview
Western Swing was an outgrowth of the fiddle and guitar dance bands of the 1920s in the Southwest, influenced by the melting pot that was Texas and the growing popularity of jazz. In this workshop, students will explore the jazz roots of the guitar styles used in western swing - from backing the simple fiddle tune and European dance steps, to the "take-off" styles popularized later. Bring your instruments. We’ll be playing. Registration for the earlier workshop "Folk Roots of Western Swing Guitar" is recommended but not required.
