Introduction to Rosemaling

Course Overview

Rosemaling is a folk art of Norway that has distinct styles in specific regions and valleys. However, rosemaling as a whole celebrates the visual language of Nordic regions. During its height in the 1800s, it was a way to bring the beauty of nature inside for the long winter months. In class we will go over the basic technique and history of this decorative style. We will practice the fundamental painting process using oil paint on paper.

Basic supplies and rosemaling patterns will be supplied by the instructor. At the end of class, you’ll go home with worksheets and a small decorated wall plaque.
