Course
Designing Scandinavian Style Mittens
Course Overview
Scandinavian style mittens are some of the most iconic mittens today. The styles vary, as do the different countries and regions they hail from. There have been many books written about these mittens, so there are endless patterns available for today’s knitters to choose from. In this class, students will learn the history and folklore, the differences and similarities, and the hows of designing their own pattern. This pattern will be used to knit the students' own unique pair of mittens. Discussion on yarns to use and colors will also be covered. Designing will be done with the use of graph paper and colored pencils, or computer loaded with Excel (instructor will demo). The instructor will have yarns and needles available to purchase separate from the materials fee, if needed by the student. Students should have had some experience knitting with at least two colors of yarn and working on small gauge needles.
Youth ages 16+ may attend if accompanied by an adult. Adult/child pairs will complete one project and pay one materials fee. A 25% tuition discount applies to the youth registrant when registering with a full paying adult; call to register.
