Course
Bobbin Lace Making
Course Overview
Crocheting, knitting, tatting, and needle lace focus on a single thread to construct lace. Bobbin lace making is another one of the traditional forms of making lace, and is the only technique to use multiple threads concurrently. The technique has some similarities to weaving but is done on a portable board with wooden bobbins holding the thread. Kelly learned bobbin lace making, or knyppling, while studying in Sweden where the lace is often made for folk costumes. It can also be used as decorative edging on clothing or household items such as curtains, pillow cases, and hand towels. Come explore the Scandinavian Torchon technique, as we use basic stitches to make a window ornament or a holiday decoration. Returning students are encouraged to take the course again, as projects of varying skill levels will be available.
