Course Overview

This course provides an opportunity for in-depth exploration of two interesting techniques, bead embroidery and needle felting. With time, space, and abundant materials, each participant will create their own unique works of art. The goal is to review and then move beyond the basics of materials and processes. Working with color and texture in a composition can add a wonderful depth and dimension to a bead-embroidered landscape on a needle-felted wool. The extended format allows for each student to have ample time for one-on-one discussions with the instructor. The group will ttake time to talk about some principles of composition, ways to transfer patterns, and how to frame fiber art. Each student should bring a few landscape images (photo, drawing, magazine image) as inspiration for their work. Using a 4” x 6” or 5” x 7” format students will needle felt the background for the piece (materials provided). Then, with some simple bead embroidery stitches, they will “paint” the foreground to complete the creation.

Jo will provide all the needle felting supplies as well as needles and thread for beading. Come join us for a fun and relaxed creative experience and learn how these traditional needle arts can be used for your creations. Jo Wood’s approach to 'painting with beads' is a unique combination of tradition and innovation. Preview Jo’s bead embroidery style on her website by visiting www.jowoodbeads.com
