Color and Collaboration: Swedish Weaving in the 21st Century with Miriam Parkman
Program Overview
Join professional weaver Miriam Parkman, visiting from Sweden, as she talks about her recent works, her current exhibition in Toronto with Canadian artist Sandy Lamb and the big tapestry Studio Supersju installed in Stockholm City Hall in June 2023. With her first visit to North House and Minnesota, Miriam is hoping to meet fellow artists and continue the conversation after the lecture. This program is free and open to the public!
Miriam Parkman (b.1990) is a professional textile artist and hand weaver from Sweden, with a degree from Handarbetets Vänner school in Stockholm. Her work centers around the techniques rya and rölakan (tapestry) and telling stories through their familiar yet unexpected expression with a heavy focus on color and tactility. She is one of six members in the weaving collective Studio Supersju, who has been working together since 2016. As a group they explore what it means to be textile artists and designers in the 21st century and make exhibitions and public commissions together.
