Seasonal Pies: Baking for the Colder Months

Course Overview

Whether it is for holiday celebrations or simply for everyday indulgence, for many of us, the colder months mean making time for baking. In this class we will spend the weekend celebrating pies for fall and winter. While there is certainly nothing wrong with a traditional pumpkin pie, this class is an opportunity to branch out from the usual seasonal pie menu. We will also work on finishing techniques to make your pies a true centerpiece!

Students age 16+ may register for this class independently. Youth ages 12+ may register if accompanied by a registered adult. Adult/child pairs will complete two projects and pay two materials fees. A 25% tuition discount applies to the youth registrant when registering with a full paying adult; call to register.

This class will include standing at a work bench and using kitchen hand tools.  If a student is unable to stand at a work bench, please notify NHFS so instructor can set up a lower accessible work area.

Required Tools

  • Containers for transporting pies. Students will take home a combination of completed baked pies and pie elements for future baking.

Optional Tools

  • If you have a rolling pin that you love and feel comfortable with, feel free to bring it. North House has a full selection of rolling pins, however, if you don’t have a favorite.
