Fiber Art
Weaving Landscapes: The Art of Tapestry
Course Overview
Learn to translate landscapes and nature imagery into art through the language of tapestry weaving. In this class, students will learn how to create their own 10 inch wide tapestry wall hanging from start (warping the loom) to finish (mounting their completed weaving on a dowel). After sampling to understand the foundations of the craft, students will weave a landscape scene either based on their own design idea or one provided by the instructor. We will explore techniques like tabby weave, color transitions, creating shapes, color blending, and adding detail. The materials fee includes a loom (17 x 13 inches) and weaving tools that the students use in class and take home with them to continue their weaving journey.
This class is suitable for beginners as well as folks who have some weaving experience and would like to deepen their knowledge. It is helpful to have the hand mobility to be able to hold and manipulate a small tapestry needle, and to be able to sit for extended periods of time.
