Student Pizza Bake
Most Fridays May-September

Program Overview

Most Fridays from May to October, students who are taking a class are invited to join for our weekly student wood-fired pizza potluck! We provide dough (GF option available), sauce, and cheese, and our woodfired oven will be hot and ready to fire your handmade pizza! Bring a favorite topping or two to share. Come at 5:30pm to chop and prepare your toppings as needed. At 6pm, a North House staff member will show you the ropes - be sure to be there on time, especially if you have never attended a North House pizza bake before!

Frequently Asked Questions

What toppings should I bring?

  • Classics like pepperoni, mushroom, and black olives are always a win.
  • Meats like sausage should be COOKED, not raw! Sometimes pizzas only take 60 seconds to cook!
  • Mix it up! Have an obscure favorite? Don't be afraid to let others give it a try!

What time should I come?

If you are bringing a whole onion, bell pepper, or a block of cheese, come down to the Blue Building as early as 5:30 to chop it up and put it in a bowl. We'll provide bowls, cutting boards, and knives. *Tip* round things like whole olives or grape tomatoes don't stay on pizzas! Bring them down early to cut them in half. At 6 pm sharp, a North House staff member will show everyone the ropes. Be sure to arrive on time so you know what to do.

Can I bring a beverage?

Students are welcome to bring a beverage to enjoy with their pizza. Drinking alcohol on campus is allowed in moderation and in a publicly respectful manner. Alcohol may not be consumed during the operation of tools or power equipment. In accordance with city ordinance, cannabis and hemp products, including edibles and beverages, may not be consumed in public spaces in areas zoned as downtown waterfront property in Grand Marais, which is the area of campus used by students and visitors, including all classroom spaces and all outdoor spaces on the south side of highway 61.

Can I bring a friend or partner?

We do our best to estimate how much dough to make based on how many students are enrolled in classes that week, including one guest. If you plan to bring more than one guest, please call, check in at the front office school store, or email info@northhouse.org to rsvp.

Can I come if I am not a student?

Since we estimate our dough quantities in advance based on student enrollment, we are unable to offer invitations to the public to our weekly pizza bakes. In the spring, we offer a free, community pizza bake and the invitation is wide open! Visit the Community Pizza Bake page for more info. Another way to join in is as a volunteer- we are always looking for extra support to help make our weekly pizza bakes happen! For more info, visit https://northhouse.org/get-involved/volunteer.
