Mary Lauren studied traditional willow basketry in northern Scotland in 2014, came back to the states and has been affecting and inspiring the green burial movement with her willow coffins since. She loves teaching and has taught several workshops a season throughout New England for four years. You can find her out along the rivers in Vermont, weaving baskets of all shapes and sizes and playing her fiddle when the baskets are done.

Learn the basics of traditional Roma frame basketry. The travelling people of Europe would harvest willow, hazelnut and hawthorne whips from the hedgerows along the road and weave these ribbed baskets. There are endless opportunities to play with shape and size and students will get all the basic techniques needed…
