Louise Young
South Range, WI
When she was a child, Louise told her mother that she wanted to learn how to spin. Her mother’s response? "Nobody spins anymore!" Years later, Louise discovered that people actually do still spin, and she's been using her spindles to create yarn with everything from milkweed to fox fur for the past 25 years. She has learned from indigenous spinners in Myanmar, Guatemala, Peru, and Bolivia. Louise's favorite quotation is from Mahatma Gandhi: "I believe that the yarn we spin is capable of mending the broken warp and woof of our lives."
