Kari Tauring
Kari Tauring is a touring musician, author, and cultural educator born in Minnesota and living in Bdote/Minneapolis since 1996. Immersed in Norwegian-American family and culture she began "peeking under the lefse" in 1988. Exploring ancient runes, Norse mythology, cosmology, and spiritual traditions described in Old Norse poetry, and the folk music and dance of her heritage became a life long passion and full time career.
She was the recipient of a Legacy and Heritage grant in 2011 to explore the intersection of rune shapes and body postures within traditional Scandinavian dance. In 2023 she won an apprenticeship to study Iron Age bone and tree flute making in Denmark with Aksel Striim and in Norway with Hans Frederik Jacobsen.
Tauring published two rune books, a poetry book, and a manual for her original system of Norse spiritual self-study called Völva Stav. Her three Nordic roots recordings were crowd source funded. All are available on her website.
