Allen has been knitting since the 1980s with an interest in multicolor knitting techniques. He has focused on the knitting traditions of Northern Europe and the British Isles and has taught traditional Scandinavian, Fair Isle and Latvian projects using the multicolor technique. Allen has expanded his fiber interests to include spinning his own knitting yarns on one of his several spinning wheels. Allen lives in Madison, where he divides his time among knitting and spinning projects and spoiling the family Greyhounds.
