Slow Fashion Series: Skirts
Course Overview
Taking a step back from the world of fast fashion and disposable cheap clothing is a step towards personal sustainability that appeals to many people, but can seem a bit daunting. Building a budget to purchase from reputable companies and makers can be a slow process and sitting down at a sewing machine to make your own pieces when the days of home economics class are far behind you is its own kind of intimidating. This two day course will introduce basic sewing skills and use modern fabrics and design to create a skirt that you’ll be proud to wear and excited to replicate. Skills will include: cutting out pattern pieces, sewing gathers, and choosing fabrics that work best for sewing clothing. Students are welcome to use a North House machine or bring their own sewing machines to gain experience; be sure to that you can thread your machine and wind the bobbins. If you want to use your own machine in class, please also bring your sewing machine manual.
