Norwegian Overtone Flute
Overtone flutes have been made from willow for centuries by many northern cultures.Their playful and melodic tones fluctuate with a natural beauty - you too can be a pied-piper! In this course, flutes will be constructed using plastic pipe and carved wooden dowels. For finishing, the flutes can be wrapped with cloth/birchbark or painted. Learn the basic playing technique. Musical ability is not required - a six year old can play this type of flute. Your children and grandchildren will enjoy playing these simple instruments. Children age 12 and older may participate with adult guidance. Listen to tapes and CDs that demonstrate how this instrument is applied in traditional and contemporary Scandinavian folk music, while creating your own flutes to take home.
