Learn to Knit a Norwegian Sweater

Course Overview

Learn the basic techniques for knitting a traditional Norwegian sweater by knitting a mini sweater. By working through the entire process under the experienced eye of the instructor, students will leave ready to tackle a full-size project on their own. Students will learn to read charts and work with two colors of yarn. The sweater will also incorporate the use of steeks, which are added stitches to the pattern that allow the knitter to knit with more efficient skill. The steeks are then secured and cut open to allow for armholes and a front opening for a cardigan. The materials fee includes a traditional yarn for Norwegian knitting and a charted pattern with directions. Time permitting, the steek on the sweaters will be secured with the use of a sewing machine and then cut open to be finished either in class or at home.

This is not a learn to knit class. Students should be comfortable knitting and purling in the round, knitting with 2 colors, working on double point needles and knitting with sport weight yarn.
