Intro to Sail Making

Course Overview

Learn the history of sail types, their cloths, camber and depth as this course investigates the traditions and techniques of sail making. The subject of this course is two “gaff-rigged” (square) sails and one “hank on jib” (three-sided) as the class sews sails for a 47’ San Juan Islands Sharpie Schooner. You'll gain practical hands-on experience with sewing machines, sail material and techniques required to get started on your own sail making project.
