Holiday Weaving: Monk's Belt Table Runner
Course Overview
Bring a bit of Scandinavian flair to your holiday table with a Monk's Belt table runner in select seasonal colors! Monk's Belt is an iconic overshot weave structure where a pattern weft floats over a ground of plain weave cloth. The Monk's Belt motif consists of blocks of flowers framed by vertical stripes. This technique gets its name from an example of this structure that was found on a monk’s belt from 1600s Germany. Today we think of this festive pattern as quintessential Scandinavian. In this class, students will weave a holiday-themed table runner in Monk's belt technique. Discover the beauty of this two block pattern while learning to manage two shuttles and read profile drafts. The students will be weaving a cottolin warp with a tow linen weft. This is excellent an excellent course for students who have had an introduction to floor loom weaving; however confident beginners are welcome as well. Students are asked to choose between four warp color options prior to class. More information will be provided following registration. Students age 16+ may sign up for this course.
