Gudbrandsdal Selburose: Flowers, Snowflakes, or Stars
Course Overview
In this class we will learn about the dynamic acanthus leaves of Gudbrandsdal style rosemaling and apply it to a 8” square wood panel. Our designs will be inspired by the iconic Norwegian knitting pattern called a Selburose. A Selburose is characterized by an Octagram shape that we will incorporate the scrolls, leaves, flowers, and linework of rosemaling into. The finished project will radiate a glowing design that will be a star decoration in your home.
During class we will paint the 8” wood panels with a black paint before applying rosemaling. There will be three different designs available and class allows enough time to complete one panel/one design. If a student is interested, additional panels/patterns can be purchased so they can complete all three on their own time.
The patterns are made with a grid that we will draw onto our panels to lay out the design. If you want to use transfer paper you may, but we will be teaching how to draw your own pattern using the parameters of a grid.
This is an intermediate class. Painting experience is a must, experience with rosemaling techniques would be beneficial.
Depending on materials needs, up to $35 can be paid to instructor in class. Please bring cash or check.
Students Age 16+ are welcome to take this class.
