For the Shop: The Practical Joiner's Bench

Course Overview

In this focused and directed course in traditional and modern woodworking, the student at North House can now build his or her own practical joiner's bench. The result will be a portable yet stout bench suitable for both joiners and serious carpenters alike. Classroom bench construction will give the student ample opportunity for customizing and accessorization using holdfasts, hooks, dogs and slaves – all specialized for serious joinery and carpentry applications. Skills covered will include design, truing, layout and cutting of mortise and tenons and sharpening. Built with 2 ½ -inch maple top, Douglas fir base, and oak vises, the hardwoods for this project make the joiner’s bench a lifelong investment and foundation for your shop.
