Woodcarving is a skill which can be enjoyed by all generations. It can also provide an excellent opportunity to spend time with your child, grandchild, or any young friend, creating objects which will be treasured for many years to come. The so-called "Celtic Knot," with its interwoven strands is an ancient symbol for affection and steadfastness. Adult-child pairs use simple carving tools to create basswood spoons which embody the knot pattern. While carving the spoons, you will learn together about working with wood grain, proper use of the carving knife, and techniques for care and sharpening of carving tools. Prepared spoon blanks will be available, or you may design and carve your own unique spoons.
