A wooden-bodied hand plane, properly tuned, epitomizes the harmonious connection between woodworkers and their tools. In this course we will begin with pre-milled and fully prepared stock, and follow a proven pattern to assemble a plane body that houses a tool steel blade of the highest quality available. We will also be sharpening the blade, making a small plane-adjusting hammer, and learning the use of a shooting board for very accurate joints. Although we will use pre-milled parts in this course, students will leave with the knowledge to process the wood for future planes from scratch.
