Birds, History and Fall Colors On The North Shore - A Guided Tour

Course Overview

The North Shore has an abundance of unique birds, history and fall colors all waiting for our discovery. Bring your binoculars and hiking boots, as this two-day guided experience introduces you to all three. Enjoy a first day of class birding and exploring Grand Portage State Park, where we will hike to High Falls looking for birds along the walkway. A visit to the Grand Portage Historical Monument will be the next stop to find out about the historical importance of this area in the pre-settlement era. Our final stop will include a productive area in Grand Portage to look for migrating waterfowl and shorebirds. The second day includes a trip to Oberg Mountain to witness the fall colors and look for both resident and migrant birds along this 2-mile hike. Hopefully the colors will be in full glory and we will also experience some hawk migration down Lake Superior's North Shore. Van transportation and lunch will be provided on day one. The second day we will car pool to Oberg Mountain and you can leave for your homeward journey from the Oberg Mt. parking lot.
