Course Overview

Do you remember the thrill of learning to ride a bike? The sense of independence, freedom, the joy of gliding down the street? The same sense of challenge and thrill happens when learning to weave. Learn the body mechanics, techniques, tips and tricks to get you started on adventures of your own. Cloth is woven into our lives from the moment we wake up to the moment we go to sleep; the experience of creating fabric is empowering, and the possibilities are endless.

In this class we will cover how to wind a warp with proper tension, beam it onto the loom, thread the pattern, sley the reed, tie on & tie up. Together we will walk through project planning, yarn selection, good weaving technique, and finishing options. Students will have the option to choose from three projects based on material choice; a set of fine & lightweight dinner napkins, a medium thickness hand towel, or thick and sturdy placemat. Time permitting, students may swap looms to make samples of other thicknesses. By the end of class, students will be familiar with the techniques they need to continue their weaving journey.

Material fee to be collected in class: $50
