Basketry
Weaving a Black Ash Cooking Basket
Course Overview
Every basket tells a story and this one is no different. For this short course, students will weave a (cooking) basket measuring approximately 6”x6”x6” upon completion. The basket will be suitable for use as a storage or harvest basket or for cooking meats such as beef or wild game and soft veg. The instructor will share stories of cooking adventures and demonstrate by using her own basket for cooking while students are weaving their projects using choice, Black Ash splint that has been pre-harvested and pre-processed, incorporating a narrow, thick splint as a hidden rim. Hand strength is a must. Yum--fajitas!
This course is open to students ages 16+. Youth ages 12-15 are welcome to register with an adult. Adult/child pairs will complete one project and pay one materials fee. A 25% tuition discount applies to the youth registrant when registering with a full-paying adult; call to register.
