There are so many ways to weave. Perhaps you have heard of a floor loom, or a table loom, but what is tablet weaving, how is it different from an inkle weaving, and when might you use a rigid heddle? In this class students will experience a variety of ways to weave, the capabilities of each tool, and the different products possible on each. This unique opportunity to see these systems side by side will illuminate insights into weave structure, strength, material choice, and product quality, helping the weaver choose the right tool for the job. By the end of class, students should feel comfortable approaching a variety of warp styles and weaving methods, as well as understand the best ways to utilize each tool. The process of warping will be discussed and demonstrated, with optional hands-on practice. Plan to make four items with a kitchen theme: a rep weave trivet, a small twill hand towel, an apron belt, and recipe bookmark. A materials fee of $25-35 will be collected in class. This class will require the use of fine motor skills, and students should be comfortable sitting for long periods. Students age 14+ may register on their own. Youth ages 12+ may attend if accompanied by an adult. A 25% tuition discount applies to the youth registrant when registering with a full paying adult; call to register. Adult/child pairs will complete their own projects and pay two materials fees.
