Course Overview

Swedish Folk Painting, often referred to as “dalmalning” actually consists of several different painting styles based on region, subject, and artist. In this course we will discuss several of these different styles. Then we’ll practice the basic painting techniques of two of these styles and create our own individualized projects. This course will be taught in acrylics; oil paints are welcome. Students are encouraged to try painting with acrylics even if you usually paint in oils. No painting experience is needed.

Required Tools

All materials needed to paint with acrylics will be provided by the instructor. If you prefer to paint with
oils you will need to bring your own oil paint and mediums. There will be basic supplies and paints for
background painting available for everyone. The instructor will provide woodenware and canvas for
projects. The instructor will have brushes to use in class and for purchase. Brushes are not included in the class materials fee, but are available for purchase if you want to take them home.
