Youth Camp

Spring Break Makers Camp 2024!

Course Overview

Woodn’t you like to whittle away spring break learning the age-old skills of woodcarving? This camp will teach students how to safely use a simple carving knife to create spoons, pencils, and other wooden objects (not just pointy sticks!) Time will be spent learning about trees, finding wood that is good for carving, painting, and decorating wooden projects and developing a lifelong skill. Instructor Fred Livesay has been holding a knife since he was knee high to a gnome and will share his infectious good humor and love of craft with aspiring makers in grades 3-6. Half and full scholarships available by request to any Cook County family.

Note, we know Spring Break is a busy time: participation is welcome even if you must miss 1-2 days. If you will miss the first day, please let us know at the time of registration.

Camp Schedule: Full day camps are held from 9am-4 pm each day with an hour break from noon-1 for lunch and down time. You can drop your child off at their camp location up to 30 minutes before the start of camp each day. Campers need to be picked up by 4:15. We encourage kids to bring a book or quiet game for their break and they will have access to outdoor space in good weather to play during lunch break.

Pick up and Drop Off: You can drop your child off at their camp location up to 30 minutes before the start of camp each day. If dropping off early, please have your child bring a book or quiet activity. All parents/guardians must drop off their children in person each day of camp. At the time of registration, parents/guardians may authorize their child to walk or bike home from camp alone. All kids not walking/biking must be picked up by an authorized parent/guardian within 15 minutes of the end of the camp day.

Scholarships: We want Kids’ Camp to be accessible to families in Cook County regardless of financial status. There are half cost and full cost scholarships available for youth residents of Cook County. Scholarships can be requested at the time of registration via the phone: 218-387-9762.

Registration: To ensure access for local families, registration is available by phone or in person only beginning January 30 at 9am. Online registration will be available to non-Cook County residents beginning on February 2. If you have any questions, we welcome registrations by phone at 218-387-9762.
