Course Overview

Join sprang historian and expert Carol James for a fascinating evening discussing sprang sashes. The webinar will begin with a brief introduction to the technique, and a demonstration of how it works. We then look at diverse uses of the technique through history, focusing on sashes. Diverse structures are possible with sprang, and this is reflected in the structure of sprang sashes through history. We focus particularly on sash given by the mortally wounded British General Edward Braddock to his adviser, a young George Washington. The now 300 year old sash is held by George Washington’s Mount Vernon. In 2013 Carol completed a replica sash for Mount Vernon. Carol shares the step-by-step of the replication of this famous sash, and some of the lessons learned.
