Course Overview

Spend a day with one of the world's finest spoon carvers and all-around lovely human being, Barn the Spoon. Barn is returning to North House to share his infectious love for spoons, deep knowledge of craft, and his passion for carving and community building as a means for improving the lives of individuals and the world at large. This one-day class is designed for those who might be new to woodcarving and not quite ready or able to sign up for a multi-day immersion, but would still like to spend time with Barn, learning a few skills and sharing some stories. A simple carving knife, available at the North House school store, moderate hand strength and dexterity, and a measure of curiosity, are all students need to bring for an enjoyable day.

Required Tools

  • Bring a fixed blade carving knife. A Mora 106 or Mora 120 are great and easily accessible options for spoon carving. These knives are commonly available in the school store.

Optional Tools

  • Feel free to bring a curved blade for hollowing if you have one – otherwise, this will be provided.
