Step into North House’s iconic Red Building for an introductory class focused on the basics of spindle wood turning. In this class, students will start with practice exercises as they learn to safely operate a top-of-the-line lathe. Using tools like gouges, parting tools, and skew chisels, students will make several projects to take home, including a French-style rolling pin, honey dippers, and multiple styles of spinning tops. This class is designed for total beginners and requires no previous experience—an excellent opportunity to build foundational skills with professional equipment and a knowledgeable instructor!

This course requires the ability to stand for multiple hours at a time. This instructor is able to accommodate a broad range of abilities, please reach out to North House with specific questions.

Students ages 14+ may register for this course independently.

Required Tools

• Closed-toed footwear
• Personal protective equipment: safety glasses and hearing protection are provided for students and required for certain tools in our workshops, but you may wish to bring your own for fit and comfort

Optional Tools

• You are welcome to bring turning tools if you own them.
