Special Event

Sing & Play Folk Songs from Northern Minnesota!

Course Overview

Come ready to sing and/or play! Featured Speakers Brian Miller and Randy Gosa, the Lost 40, will teach traditional folk songs collected in 1924 from singers living in northern Minnesota. Participants will hear the original 1924 field recordings and learn some history behind the songs and singers in addition to learning the songs themselves. Brian and Randy will demonstrate and teach their process for learning and bringing to life these treasures from Minnesota's past. They will show how they use chordal and melodic accompaniment to create variety and texture that supports and interacts with these old melodies. At least one song from the workshop will be incorporated into the Sunday concert. No need to play an instrument; just a desire to sing along! If you do want to play, bring a guitar or instrument from the mandolin family.
