Shoemaking with the Cordwainer Shop: The Squire Boot
Course Overview
Learn to make the Squire boot with professional shoemaker/cordwainer Molly Grant. Students will choose from an array of colors to make their own leather boots, learning a variety of leatherworking skills along the way, including skiving, folding, glueing, lining, lasting, and burnishing. The Squire boot is fully lined and hand sewn to leather soles, and finished with a hand-inscribed sock lining. Other skills covered in the course will include pattern making, proper leather lay out, use of an antique sewing machine, and basic hand sewing. The finished shoe will have all the details that make the Squire boot a joy to make and even more lovely to wear, a true Cordwainer classic. NOTE: Due to materials preparation needs and sizing, students must register for this course two weeks in advance.
