Sailing
Sail-Rigging Dynamics For The Inquisitive Sailor
Instructor:
John Koon
Course Overview
Understanding the physics, geometry, chemistry, mechanical properties and poetry of your boat’s sailing-rig is paramount to mastery of the art of “Sailing Your Rig.” This seminar will take you on a journey through time with the evolution of the “sail-rig” as we know it today. It poses the simplest of questions “ what does the rigging on your boat actually do” The many answers to which will leave the student both inspired and anxious to get underway to continue the journey. This seminar will provide the students a unique opportunity to “learn the rig through building it.” Both in the classroom with lecture modules and imagery and on the benches as we assemble a voyaging mast and rig from scratch.
