Power Tool Fundamentals: Cutting Board
Course Overview
The woodshop is full of tools that can make work easier and more efficient, but it requires time and careful training to make sure they can be used safely and effectively. Gain that experience in this three-day offering focused on building student comfort with power tools through a classic project: the wooden cutting board. We will use a variety of power tools to mill wood to ideal thickness, width, and length then customize the shape for an individualized look. We will learn to rip on the table saw, cross-cut on the miter saw, use both jointer and planer, and achieve curve cuts on the bandsaw. Walk away with a unique hardwood cutting board with a walnut oil finish unlike any you could buy off the shelf, and—just as important—new skills and comfort in the woodshop. This class will require near vision and standing for long periods of time. Youth ages 16+ are welcome to register independently. Youth ages 12-16 may register if accompanied by an adult. Adult/child pairs will complete two projects and pay two materials fees. A 25% tuition discount applies to the youth registrant when registering with a full paying adult; call to register.
