Course Overview

Learn all the basic stitches you need and discover freeform embroidery with threads and wool yarn. You'll be inspired by traditional styles and the world around you. Sample different techniques and materials, and get tips for planning and transferring designs. We'll learn together over two sessions on Zoom, with time in between to practice. Class recordings and demonstrations will be available to review between classes and after the class is over. Come ready to experiment, have fun, and begin to develop your own personal embroidery style. You'll leave with plenty of ideas to help you add unique stitching to your next project.

Required Tools

  • Yarn and/or embroidery floss, fabric to stitch on, hand sewing needles, and a few other notions (students will receive an email with specific suggestions). The materials for this class are flexible, and the hope is that students can mostly use things they already have, or that are easy to find.
  • A laptop or tablet with a reliable internet connection
