Lucet Braiding for Beginners

Course Overview

The lucet is a simple handheld tool that is used to create colorful square braids. These firm braids have been made since the Viking Era and used for embellishment, tying, and lashing. String, crochet cotton, wool and modern fibers all can be used for different effects. Once the technique is mastered, the useful and sturdy braids are created quickly, and experimentation with various fibers and colors can be explored.

Tom and Nancy will present a short history of the Lucet and students will have time to learn the skills it takes to create uniform braided cords. Students will finish class with their own wooden Lucet, thread, and the knowledge to continue using this handy tool.
