Course Overview

Loop-in-loop chain making is a technique that dates back to approximately 1000 BCE, with artifacts of this construction found at ancient Egyptian, Greek, Etruscan, and Roman sites. Happily, the skills needed to create these beautiful and durable chains are well within reach of the beginning metalsmith and are likely to inspire future pursuits. In this three-day course, students will complete a bracelet of pure silver that will become a cherished piece for daily wear. This is an excellent project to begin an exploration of the world of metalsmithing, with opportunities to transition to more complex skills and tasks. Those with experience can attempt more advanced projects, but time constraints may require that these be completed at home. Note: good eyesight is essential, but reading glasses can do the trick. Students ages 16+ are welcome to register for this course.
