Course Overview

You love to read, and those books you’re reading are stacked by your bed, the couch, and even on the floor, right? In this class we will learn how to sew a gorgeous leather book tote using traditional saddle-making processes that’s the perfect size to organize your current haul from the library. You can customize your tote with pockets for a notebook and pen, and we will also make a case for reading glasses. You will learn about leather and its care, sewing with a two-needle saddle stitch, installing basic hardware, and surface design. It’s important for students to have good hand dexterity for sewing, and enough arm/shoulder strength to pound with a mallet like you mean it. Students age 16+ may sign up for this class.

Optional Tools

  • Reading glasses if needed
