Kumihimo with Beads

Course Overview

Kumihimo is an ancient Japanese technique used to make beautiful cords. Historically, the most complex forms were used as a functional embellishment on samurai armour. Today, it's more common to use kumihimo cords to embellish your arm as beaded bracelet. Students will learn how to braid on a kumihimo disk, ways to design and add beads, and how to make a closure without the need for jewelry findings. At the end of the class, the bracelet will be ready to wear and you'll have the knowledge to make more. All materials are supplied, but students should bring scissors and a tape measure.
