Introduction to Lantern Puppets

Course Overview

Lantern puppets bring a unique magic to nighttime theater shows and after-dark parades. In this class, students will create sculptural art that (literally) shines! Students will learn the basics of wire and cloth lantern puppet construction while using skills such as wire bending and hand sewing.

One registration fee includes one of the following:

  • One child age 8-12 with an adult (collaborating to make one puppet), or
  • One child age 12+ with good fine motor skills and ability to work independently, or
  • One adult 18+

Students are encouraged to bring their completed projects to the lantern walk that will take place the evening of Friday, October 16, to experience the joy of seeing lantern puppets in their natural environment! More information will become available on the Family Weekend event page later this summer.
