Course Overview

Unlock the tiny, intricate world that surrounds us through the art of macro photography. In this 1.5 day course, students will learn to capture crisp, up-close details of insects, flowers and other nature subjects often overlooked. Master camera settings and handheld techniques specifically for macro work, while developing patience to seek out cooperative early session critters. Pro nature photographer Bryan Hansel will guide the class in interacting respectfully with these miniature models and anticipating their movements for the perfect shot. Students will leave with not only stunning macro imagery, but also an enriched appreciation for the biodiversity in their own backyards. Whether a budding photographer or experienced naturalist, this immersive experience will connect folks more deeply to the tiny ecosystems sustained by northern landscapes. Apply new macro skills to explore beauty at every scale. Open to students ages 16+, youth ages 12-15 may register if accompanied by an adult. A 25% tuition discount applies to the youth registrant when registering with a full paying adult; call to register. Students should be comfortable walking on uneven ground, kneeling or sitting on the ground and able to independently carry and handle camera gear.
